After the deadline set by judge Sérgio Moro for Brazil’s ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to turn himself in to the federal police expired, Workers’ Party chair Gleise Hoffmann explained Brazil’s former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is not considered a fugitive from Justice.
“There’s no failure to execute [judge Sérgio] Moro’s sentence. Lula had a choice to go to Curitiba. He chose not to. He is here at the [Metal Workers’] union, a public space. The world knows he is here and here he will stay. Let’s make it clear he did not disobey the warrant, it’s a choice he had,” Hoffmann said.
The press office of the Federal Courts of Paraná state informed journalists that judge Sérgio Moro’s deadline, at 5pm on this Friday, was to offer him an “opportunity” to turn himself in, but that Lula is not disobeying the warrant by not doing so.
