Journalist Pamela Oliveira hosts our weekly English-language show featuring the latest news and fun facts about Brazil - Screen capture/Brasil de Fato

In this special edition of What’s Happening in Brazil, we bring to you a celebration of one of modern Brazil’s most iconic Human Rights leaders, murdered Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman, Marielle Franco. The late politician embodied the struggle for women’s rights, the black movement, LGBTQ advocacy, as well as that of the poor and working classes.

Also featured on the show is an update of the week’s latest news coming out of Brazil. Learn the details about a military cooperation deal signed by Brasilia and Whasington, and how and why a group of landless women occupied the building of one of Brazil’s biggest, and most important ministries.

In our culture talk segment, get introduced to one of the country’s best known and respected trans artists, Linn da Quebrada. Delve into how music and new forms of expression are shaping the fight for equality and the Human Rights of the LGBTQ community.

Finally, learn yet another mouth watering Brazilian recipe, and listen to some local tunes in our Brazilianism segment.

All What's Happening in Brazil episodes are available at Brasil de Fato’s YouTube channel, where you'll also find a special English-content playlist.
