VIDEO | Brazilian trans candidates seek first-ever congressional seat

The National Congress never had transsexual representatives

In our weekly program, we bring the elections and the culture of Brazil closer to those who are far abroad

In this year’s elections, trans and transvestite people will run for seats in the National Congress, which never had transsexual deputies. The goal of these candidacies is to guarantee, through legislation, rights to the LGBTQIA+ population.

With few weeks ahead of the presidential election, Brazilian television channels started hosting debates. Learn more about it on Brazil Decides.

Also, on What's Happening in Brazil: Listen to the pop and relaxing music of the Garouá band. The group was formed in São Paulo and has a curious story. To promote their songs, the members were selling sweets on the streets and parks of the city.

All What's Happening in Brazil episodes are available at Brasil de Fato's YouTube channel, where you'll also find a special English-content playlist. Partners who wish to include a longer version of the show in their schedule may contact our international team at [email protected].
