The work of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government (Workers' Party) is approved by 56% of those interviewed in the Genial/Quaest survey, released this Wednesday (21), while 40% showed disapproval. The share of respondents who did not know or did not answer was 4%.

In the survey carried out in April, 51% showed approval, 42% expressed disapproval and 6% did not know or did not respond. In February, 56% of participants approved, 28% disapproved and 16% did not know or did not respond.

The increase from 51% to 56% between April and June, in relation to the approval of the work carried out by the Lula government, is due to the improvement in the positive perception of the economy, according to Felipe Nunes, director of Quaest and professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).

“Although this improvement has occurred in all social strata, the improvement among Bolsonaro voters is noteworthy. In this segment, approval increased from 14% to 22%. The evaluation indicator helps to understand the dynamics of this approval increase. While the positive rating has remained stable, the regular rating has grown from 29% to 32%. That is, the improvement in approval came from a public that considers the government to be regular”, Nunes posted on his Twitter profile.

“In comparative terms, Lula 3 is better evaluated than Bolsonaro, FHC 2 and Dilma 2, but worse than Dilma 1, Lula 2, Lula 1 and FHC 1. These are new times for the relationship between governments and the electorate. 30% rejection seems to be the new normal."

President Lula's approval varies according to the regions of Brazil. In the Northeast, the president has a high approval rating, with 71% of respondents expressing support. In the Southeast region, the approval rate is 51%, while in the South it is slightly lower, at 48%. In the Midwest and North of the country, approval stands at 56%.

Along the same lines, disapproval also shows regional variations. In the Northeast, 28% of respondents expressed disapproval of the president. In the Southeast, this number rises to 42%, while in the South it is 49%. In the Midwest and North, the disapproval rate is 42%.

As for the share of individuals who did not know or did not answer, lower percentages are observed. In the Northeast, only 2% of respondents fit into this category. In the Southeast, the number is 7%, while in the South and in the Midwest and North, this index is 3% for both regions.
