More than 20 minutes after the end of the act in support of Palestine, occurred this Sunday (15) in São Paulo, protesters sang alternate chants to honor the Palestinian and refused to leave Charles Milles Square, at Pacaembu, west area of the paulista capital. The act increased its dimension and gave enthusiasm to the participants. To organizers, it was the biggest demonstration in defense of the Arab country.

“It’s the biggest act ever made in Brazil in support of Palestine in the last 50 years. It’s a historical act, we gathered 30 thousand people, celebrated Soraya Misleh, palestinian-brazilian journalist and coordinator of the Palestinian Front in São Paulo, one of the organizers, who talked to Brasil de Fato after more than four hours of demonstration.

Misleh, who completed 56 years old this Sunday, more than 30 of them lived around the organization of the Palestinian resistance in São Paulo, gave her statement to the exponential increase in the number of demonstrations pro-Palestine in the streets, a circumstance that long ago only took place on the social media.

“The ugly face of the occupation and the apartheid was very clear in opposition to this genocide ongoing in Gaza for the last 20 months. People are seeing this genocide in colors and live, exposed by heroic Palestinian journalists that are dying there. More than 220 murdered. The moment for an end has come”, highlighted Misleh.

During the act, the main appeal wielded by protesters was the call for the end of diplomatic and commercial relations between Brazil and Israel. The plea echoes with a speech that took shape in the last weeks and has already come up in Planalto Palace (the official seat of the Presidency of the Republic).

“This is what we can do here in Brazil: isolate Israel. This is what Palestinians are asking for and what the international company of BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) is calling for, taking sight of the example that the company battled against the Apartheid in South Africa”, said Soraya Misleh.
