Liniker, a Black Brazilian trans woman who rose to prominence as the frontwoman of the acclaimed band Liniker e os Caramelows and later became a celebrated solo artist, made history once again at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards. She won three awards at the ceremony, now in its 26th edition. Other Brazilian artists such as Luedji Luna and BaianaSystem were also honored at the event hosted on Thursday (13) in Las Vegas, United States.

Liniker won Best Portuguese-Language Urban Performance. Her album Caju, her second solo record released in August last year, won Best Portuguese-Language Contemporary Pop Album, and the song Veludo Marrom received the award for Best Portuguese-Language Song.

Emotional, Liniker emphasized the significance of the award for a trans woman. “Being a songwriter, being a travesti songwriter in a Brazil that kills us is extremely difficult,” she said, dedicating the recognition to her own journey and to the representation of trans bodies in the arts. “May our stories be told and celebrated more and more, like today.”
