Desmatamento não para de subir na Amazônia - Ibama

With the Amazon facing record deforestation rates, it's traditional peoples fight for survival. Brasil de Fato accompanied a group of riverside dwellers overcoming logistic problems caused by the drought of the rivers to find and report deforested areas. Sustainable extractive communities have come to live with land grabbing and illegal and predatory logging, which are threats to local ways of life.

The expedition identified the landing point for the illegal logging. from these large clearings in the forest, loggers open roads that extend for miles into the woods.

"For many years, we've been preserving this land without taking any wood, just collecting nuts, and then a guy who isn't even from here come and take our land", says Dionísio Pinto, from the city of Manicoré, on the Amazonas State.

Also on this week’s program: Jair Bolsonaro, the brazilian president, makes a speech full of lies on the United Nations General Assembly and the Supreme Court decides that states and municipalities are responsible for the vaccination of teens between 12 and 17 years olds against covid-19.

On the culture segment, you will learn more about Lampião, a leader of the Cangaço movement that defied the law and the landlords in the 1930s.
