VIDEO | Growth forecasts for the Brazilian economy are close to zero

Brazilian poor families and small businesses faces the burden of sluggish economy

According to researchers, the economic situation in Brazil for the working class will probably be even harder in 2022. The recession scenario with high interest rates, high unemployment and the rising number of Brazilian indebted families tends to continue.

"As we have a damaged job market as the situation we are facing now, aggravated by a very low growth projection for this year, it is no surprise that families and companies end up in debt", says the economist Mauro Rochlin.

According to data from Brazil’s Central Bank, there was a 21.7% rise in granting credit during the pandemic, while interest rates were still low. However, with the rise in interest rates that took place in December, the impetus for indebtedness may grow. And it will bump against higher interest rates and worse conditions.

Also on this week show: covid-19 vaccination of children starts in Brazil; also, listen to Zé Vaqueiro, one of the main artists of a music genre known in Brazil as “piseiro”, a mix between the traditional forró with an electronic beat.
