Fifty percent of Brazilian homes are headed by women. However, most of the unemployed people in Brazil are female. To add to that, the Federal Government of Jair Bolsonaro announced an increase in the minimum wage below the inflation rate recorded in 2021.

"Everything is too expensive. Every day we go to the supermarket we have a surprise; vegetables and fruits, another surprise; and let’s not talk about the meat price!", says the informal worker Luciene Aparecida Rodrigues.

Also on What's Happening in Brazil: The price of gas sold by the Brazilian refineries increased 19% due to the rise in oil price in the international market, a consequence of the war in Ukraine. Petrobras, the Brazilian oil state company, also announced an increase of almost 25% in the price of diesel and 16% of cooking gas.

On the culture segment, we continue to talk about women, but now let’s talk about them in the performing arts. Feminist groups in Ceará state are reflecting on the role of women in theater and fighting for them to have room in places besides the stage.
