BdF and the Russian news agency Sputnik signed a journalistic cooperation agreement on Wednesday (16), during the BRICS Media Forum, held in Rio de Janeiro.

For the executive director of BdF, journalist Nina Fideles, the partnership is a strategic milestone that meets the goals of strengthening and integrating the Global South. “It is an important way to encourage a plural dialogue on crucial topics such as de-dollarization, development based on mutual respect and multipolarity,” she says.

Fideles recalled that the agreement was formalized during an event organized by partners from China, another BRICS member country. “We stress the importance of building cultural bridges and narratives that break stereotyped news. We also consider it essential that the Brazilian public has direct access to Russia’s history, culture and social reality, contributing to a deeper and more autonomous understanding of this country,” she said.

Sputnik’s director of international cooperation, Vasily Pushkov, also celebrates the cooperation and sees it as an opportunity to break down stereotypes, as well as to refute misconceptions about the two countries. “The cooperation agreement with BdF is an important step that demonstrates the growing trust and willingness of the Russian and Brazilian media to move in the same direction, constantly improving themselves and opening up new horizons for joint work,” he said.

Nina Fideles emphasized that the partnership strengthens the media outlets that make up BRICS. “It reinforces our commitments to development, sovereignty and the common good,” she concluded.
